Palantir reassures NATO that military AI system lacks kill switch

Palantir has issued reassurances to European allies regarding its Maven Smart System, an artificial intelligence platform used by NATO military headquarters and several European armed forces. Louis Mosley, Palantir’s executive vice president for the UK and Europe, stated that neither the company nor the United States government possesses a ‘kill switch’ to remotely disable the software.

These comments follow recent controversies involving SpaceX’s Starlink and Starshield services in Ukraine. Reports indicated that the White House may have ordered limits on Ukraine’s access to these satellite networks, leading to concerns among European leaders about the strategic risks of relying on American technology. While Elon Musk noted that Starshield systems are owned and controlled by the US government, Palantir maintains that its customers retain full operational control over their software implementations.
