Palantir settles High Court dispute with London Mayor’s office
Palantir and the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) have reached a settlement to drop legal proceedings regarding a blocked £50 million contract with the Metropolitan Police. The dispute arose after MOPAC refused to sign off on a two-year contract intended to provide AI and data analysis services to help the Met automate criminal intelligence.
Palantir had brought the claim to the High Court, alleging that the decision to block the contract was unlawfully influenced by political considerations regarding the company’s values and ethics. In response, MOPAC had accused the Metropolitan Police and Palantir of attempting to coordinate the procurement process in breach of rules.
In a joint statement, both parties agreed to withdraw their allegations without admitting liability. MOPAC clarified that its decision was based on governance, affordability, and value for money rather than Palantir’s ethics, though it acknowledged that previous communications may have incorrectly created the impression that the company’s values were a factor. As part of the settlement, Palantir is permitted to re-enter the bidding process for the renewed procurement.
