Palatul Parlamentului: Bucharest's monumental parliamentary complex

The Palatul Parlamentului in Bucharest serves as the monumental seat of the Romanian Parliament and is one of the largest administrative buildings in Europe. Construction of the complex began in the early 1980s under the leadership of Nicolae Ceaușescu, with the official groundbreaking occurring on June 25, 1984.

Located on the Dealul Spirii hill in the Sector 5 district, the neoclassical structure is characterized by its massive scale and axial design. The building measures approximately 270 meters in length and 240 meters in width, rising between 84 and 86 meters above the surrounding terrain. It features a total built area of 65,000 square meters and a floor area of approximately 365,000 square meters.

The complex is integrated into the city's urban fabric via wide thoroughfares such as Calea 13 Septembrie, Bulevardul Libertății, and Bulevardul Națiunile Unite. Its main facade opens onto Piața Constituției, a large square that emphasizes the building's immense proportions.
