Palau de les Arts presents new production of Georges Bizet’s Carmen

The Palau de les Arts in Valencia is presenting a new production of Georges Bizet’s opera ‘Carmen’, marking its return to the venue after six years. Directed by Ted Huffman, this production aims to move away from traditional picturesque tropes to focus on the themes of individual freedom, desire, and the conflict between social order and free will.

The staging features a dynamic environment where changes in scenery and costume occur in view of the audience, creating a sense of constant transformation. Musical direction is led by Michele Spotti, accompanied by the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana and various choral ensembles.

The principal cast includes Vasilisa Berzhanskaya in the title role, Charles Castronovo as Don José, Ruth Iniesta as Micaëla, and Davide Luciano as Escamillo.
