Palazzo Chigi denies reports of toilet paper shortages
The Italian government's press office has issued a strong denial against a report by Il Fatto Quotidiano claiming that Palazzo Chigi is facing a shortage of toilet paper and hand wipes. The newspaper's headline, ‘In the South everything is missing. At Chigi, the toilet paper’, suggested that protests by truck drivers had disrupted supplies to the Prime Minister's office.
Government officials described the report as ‘absolutely false, lacking any foundation and ridiculous’. The press office stated that warehouses are regularly replenished and hold sufficient supplies to last for months. They further criticized the journalists involved for failing to verify the information with the press office or with Romeo Gestioni, the company responsible for institutional supplies.
In response to the allegations, the government invited the authors of the article to visit Palazzo Chigi to personally verify the stock levels in the warehouses.
