Palazzo Chigi staff must follow new 'Dress Code Meloni' banning sneakers and cuffed trousers

The Italian government has introduced a detailed dress code for employees working in Palazzo Chigi, the prime‑ministerial office of Giorgia Meloni. A decree signed by Deputy Minister Alfredo Mantovano specifies that staff must wear white shirts with an Italian collar, dark double‑breasted suits, white gloves, blue silk ties or scarves, black leather shoes and blue Scottish‑knit socks. Sneakers and trousers with cuffed hems are expressly prohibited.

The regulation also distinguishes seasonal fabrics: lighter wool (210 g/m²) for spring and summer, and heavier virgin wool (250 g/m²) for autumn and winter. This new code replaces the 2015 attire guidelines introduced under Matteo Renzi, which were more modest and limited the number of garments. The aim is to align the appearance of government personnel with formal institutional representation and a patriotic aesthetic.
