Palazzo Reale hosts major Brueghel dynasty exhibition in Milan
Palazzo Reale in Milan will host “I Brueghel. Le origini dei generi pittorici in Europa,” a major exhibition dedicated to the influential Brueghel artistic dynasty. Running from September 29 to January 31, 2027, the exhibition features over 80 works, including paintings, drawings, and prints.
The showcase explores how the Brueghel family contributed to the development of modern European painting genres, such as landscapes, still lifes, peasant life, and battle scenes, across the Netherlands, Italy, and the rest of Europe. The project, curated by Carlotta Striolo and designed by Bernard Aikema, follows previous successful exhibitions on Bosch and Dürer. It aims to illustrate the family's role in defining the pictorial systems of the 17th century through their production and distribution strategies during a period of significant socio-economic change.
