Palazzo San Giorgio foundations surveyed with advanced geophysical tools

The Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority (Autorità di Sistema Portuale del Mar Ligure Occidentale) has launched a detailed investigation of the historic foundations of the Palazzo San Giorgio in Genoa, Italy, following the recent establishment of a dedicated foundation for the building.

The survey, carried out by geotechnical firm Asgeo S.r.l., employs georadar, laser scanning, photogrammetry, geoelectric and seismic methods to map the underground spaces, assess the condition of the masonry, detect water infiltration and identify deposits. The results will provide the technical basis for planning future restoration and defining new uses for the previously unexplored areas.
