Palembang faces water crisis in three districts due to drought

The Palembang City Government has reported a clean water crisis in three districts—Sukarami, Sematang Borang, and Jakabaring—due to a prolonged dry season. Mayor Ratu Dewa stated that residents in these areas have faced difficulties accessing clean water sources for several weeks.

To mitigate the shortage, the city government, PDAM Tirta Musi, and the Department of Housing, Residential Areas, and Land will coordinate the distribution of clean water tanks based on resident needs and timing.

Additionally, authorities are addressing risks from forest and land fires (karhutla) and haze. Sub-district governments have been instructed to establish emergency posts, and the Fire and Rescue Department has been placed on standby. Due to environmental conditions, the city has advised schools to avoid outdoor activities and is considering a shift to online learning systems.
