Palembang police intensify crackdown on motorcycle theft syndicates

Police in Palembang and surrounding regions of South Sumatra are conducting major operations to combat motorcycle theft (curanmor). In a recent raid on a suspected hideout in Sukawinatan, the South Sumatra Regional Police (Polda Sumsel) detained six individuals, including a 14-year-old, and seized several motorcycles and tools. This operation follows the theft of three Honda Revo motorcycles from a Domino's Pizza outlet, resulting in losses of approximately Rp54 million.

In a separate incident in the Sukarami area, Palembang City Police (Polrestabes Palembang) arrested two men, identified as Rozakna and Rama Dani, for stealing a Honda Beat. The suspects were apprehended at their respective hideouts after the victim reported the theft.

Law enforcement efforts also faced violence when a narcotics officer, Briptu Hamdi Saputra Davanis, was shot in the shoulder while attempting to prevent a theft at a pharmacy in Palembang. The suspects fled the scene, and an investigation is ongoing. Additionally, in Lamongan, East Java, police used CCTV footage to arrest a thief and a receiver of stolen goods involved in the theft of a Yamaha Vixion.
