Palermo and Montecosaro repurpose confiscated mafia assets

In Palermo, the municipal administration is actively repurposing properties confiscated from organized crime for social housing. The city has launched a tender for 794,000 euros to perform extraordinary maintenance on these assets, focusing on electrical, water, and structural repairs to ensure safety and habitability for assigned families.

Recent actions in Palermo include the assignment of a confiscated property in the Tommaso Natale-San Lorenzo area to a family of six, including five minors, who had previously been living in a community due to extreme poverty. This follows the recovery of another property recently, as part of an effort to provide legal housing and combat the illegal rental market often controlled by criminal rackets.

In Montecosaro, the local government is exploring the conversion of a confiscated private home into a social facility, potentially a center for children with autism. The municipality has expressed interest in acquiring the property for free through the National Agency for the Administration and Destination of Assets Seized and Confiscated to Organized Crime.
