Palermo authorities evict occupants from ex Salvemini institute
Authorities in Palermo have completed an operation to evict occupants from the ex Salvemini institute located on Viale Michelangelo. The action was ordered by judicial authorities following reports of severe structural risks, including a concrete danger of collapse, and precarious hygienic-sanitary conditions.
More than 40 families were living in the building at the time of the intervention. The municipal administration, through the departments of Social Housing and Social Policies, coordinated with law enforcement agencies—including the State Police, Carabinieri, and Guardia di Finanza—to manage the transition.
To address the displacement, the city has implemented support measures: individuals on the housing emergency list are being guided toward housing solutions, while vulnerable families are receiving assistance through social emergency intervention and the PRInS project. Fabrizio Ferrandelli, the assessor for social housing, stated that the operation aimed to uphold the law while ensuring support for those in fragile conditions.
