A 56-year-old woman was seriously injured after a balcony collapsed in Palermo, Italy, on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred on via Paolo Emiliani Giudici near the central station while the woman was hanging laundry.
The victim, identified as Gizella Nazs, fell from the first floor onto the sidewalk below. She was transported to the Civico Hospital in critical condition (codice rosso) with multiple fractures to her limbs and other parts of her body. While her injuries are serious, medical professionals do not believe her life is in immediate danger.
Local reports indicate the building had been in precarious condition for some time, and the balcony had previously been secured with a protective net. Firefighters arrived to clear debris and secure the area, while police are investigating the exact dynamics of the collapse.
