Palermo Cathedral hosts ordination of four new priests

Four new priests were ordained at the Palermo Cathedral on September 26, 2026, through the laying on of hands by Archbishop Corrado Lorefice. The newly ordained deacons are Antonino D’Alia of the San Giovanni Apostolo parish in Palermo, Giuseppe Notte of the Santa Maria Maddalena parish in Ciminna, Sergio Scozzaro of the San Francesco d’Assisi parish in Misilmeri, and Leonardo Renda of the Maria SS. Mediatrice parish in Palermo.

During his homily, Archbishop Lorefice emphasized that the ordained ministry is a gift for Christian fraternity rather than a corporate or administrative role. He urged the new priests to serve with humility and to focus on being a presence for the marginalized, including the sick, refugees, the elderly, and those suffering from mental or physical distress. He called on them to foster communities of solidarity, compassion, and reconciliation, ensuring that no one feels excluded.
