Palermo Chess Festival Trinakria draws record 163 players from 12 nations

The third edition of the International Chess Festival "Trinakria" was held at the San Paolo Palace Hotel in Palermo. A record 163 players, including 27 women, took part, representing 12 different countries. The competition featured nine Swiss-system rounds and a total prize fund of €10,000, divided among the three main Open sections.

Roshka Yevgeiyha won the Open A title, Riccardo Grimaldi claimed Open B, and Marco Giannusso triumphed in Open C. The arbiter panel was led by Alberto Gueci, assisted by Rosario Davi and Giuseppe Palazzotto. Giuseppe Cerami, president of the Sicilian Chess Committee, praised the organization, and a minute of silence honored the late Calogero Sgarito, a prominent figure in Sicilian chess. The event also highlighted growing ties between the Sicilian and Calabrian chess communities.
