Palermo citizens form 30 committees to address urban decay

Vincenzo Figuccia, a Lega deputy quaestor at the Sicilian Regional Assembly, announced that 30 ‘Comitati per i diritti dei cittadini’ (Committees for Citizen Rights) have been established in Palermo following the launch of a new initiative.

The committees have begun submitting proposals and reports regarding urban decay, including issues with waste management, street lighting, and damaged sidewalks. Figuccia expressed concerns over the state of the city, describing it as neglected and lacking proper maintenance.

A key component of the initiative involves the transparent assignment of abandoned public spaces to non-profit associations to encourage civic participation and urban regeneration. Additionally, Figuccia raised concerns regarding the potential privatization of municipal service providers Rap and Reset, calling for transparency regarding their objectives and the maintenance of public control over essential services.
