Palermo Court Confirms Sentences in Xydi Mafia Investigation

The Palermo Court of Appeal has confirmed seven convictions stemming from the Xydi investigation, which uncovered the reconstruction of the Canicattì mafia district. The investigation, conducted by Carabinieri Ros and the Agrigento Provincial Command, revealed links between various mafia families in the province and the influence of businessman Giancarlo Buggea and lawyer Angela Porcello.

Key sentences include 22 years for Giuseppe Falsone, a mafia boss who regained command following his release from 41-bis detention, and 28 years for Antonio Gallea, who was previously convicted as a mastermind behind the murder of Judge Rosario Livatino. Other sentences were handed to Santo Gioacchino Rinallo (28 years), Antonino Chiazza (29 years), Pietro Fazio (18 years), Stefano Saccomando (1 year and 4 months), and former police inspector Filippo Pitruzzella (12 years).

Several convictions in this case have already become final, including those for Angela Porcello, Giancarlo Buggea, Lillo Di Caro, and Luigi Boncori.
