Italian courts issue various criminal convictions

Several legal proceedings in Italy have resulted in definitive sentences across different criminal cases. In Palermo, the Court of Appeal confirmed sentences for the Luppino brothers, Antonino and Vincenzo, receiving 5 years and 5 months in prison for aiding the fugitive mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro. Additionally, the Tribunal of Reassessment in Palermo ruled that Messina Denaro’s sisters, Giovanna and Bice, must serve prison time for their roles in facilitating his evasion from capture.

In a separate case, the Court of Cassation upheld a 20-year prison sentence for Vincenzo Lasco for the 2023 murder of Michele Bonetto in Oleggio. The court rejected the defense's claim of self-defense.

In Reggio Emilia, the Court of Appeal confirmed a sentence of 7 years, 4 months, and 8 days for a 41-year-old man who attempted to kill and strangle his former partner in Guastalla in December 2024. The incident was notably documented by a passing truck driver who intervened to stop the assault.

Other rulings include a 5-year and 4-month sentence for Paolo Cammarota regarding the 2013 fire at the Città della Scienza in Naples, and a 4-year sentence for an Egyptian national in Viterbo for a robbery against a cleaning lady.
