Palermo healthcare updates: disability care meetings and new telemedicine services
Healthcare initiatives in Palermo are expanding through new administrative meetings and digital services. The Palermo Medical Association's board will meet on September 22 at the Lega del filo d’oro in Termini Imerese. This facility specializes in assistance and rehabilitation for individuals with deaf-blindness and multiple psychophysical disabilities. Toti Amato, president of the Palermo Medical Association, stated the meeting aims to emphasize the importance of recognizing the specific communication and care needs of patients with significant disabilities.
Additionally, the oral medicine department at the Paolo Giaccone Policlinic in Palermo is launching a new televisit service starting September 21. Led by Professor Giuseppina Campisi, the service is designed for existing patients to facilitate follow-up care and continuity of treatment. The digital consultations aim to assist fragile, immunocompromised, or remote patients by allowing doctors to monitor disease progression and therapy response remotely. The department is also participating in the ‘Make Sense Campaign’ for head and neck cancer prevention, offering free screenings from September 21 to 26.
