Ica Day in Palermo addresses healthcare infection prevention

The Ica Day conference held in Palermo focused on strengthening the prevention of healthcare-associated infections (ICA) and combating antimicrobial resistance. Organized by the Hcrm scientific association in collaboration with Bistoncini Partners, the event brought together healthcare professionals, researchers, and institutions to discuss integrated organizational models.

Experts emphasized that infection prevention must extend beyond hospitals to include community care, such as residential care facilities and community houses. Key discussion points included the role of technological innovation—specifically artificial intelligence, telemedicine, and interoperable data systems—in predicting risks and improving epidemiological surveillance.

Participants highlighted the need for better data connectivity to move from describing phenomena to active risk intervention. The event also featured an hackathon to encourage innovative solutions from startups to be tested within the local health authority (Asp di Palermo).
