Palermo hosts Sicilian States General of Education summit
More than 4,000 students and teachers gathered in Palermo for the “Stati Generali dell’Istruzione,” a two-day event marking the first return of this Sicilian educational summit in 25 years. Organized by the Regional Department of Education, the Regional School Office for Sicily, and INDIRE, the event focused on the current state and future of the island's school system.
Regional Minister Mimmo Turano highlighted key needs emerging from the discussions, including the installation of air conditioning in schools—a measure currently being funded through budget variations—and the implementation of psychological support services for students in collaboration with the University of Palermo. Other proposals included creating a film about the late archaeologist Sebastiano Tusa to be used in educational settings.
The event featured various interactive workshops where students explored robotics, artificial intelligence, and augmented reality. Participants also engaged in creative activities, such as a mural project aimed at combating youth addiction. The summit was attended by high-level officials, including Italy's Minister of Education Giuseppe Valditara and representatives from the European Commission.
