Palermo launches executive design for new tram lines

In Palermo, the municipal administration has officially launched the executive design phase for two new tram lines, Tratta A Nord and Tratta B. The contracts for this design work have been awarded to the firms Sis and Caf.

Tratta A Nord will cover approximately 5.3 km, creating a loop connecting the Villa Sofia terminus through via Libertà, via Notarbartolo, and via Leoni, eventually reaching Piazza Papa Giovanni Paolo II. Tratta B will involve the redevelopment of the existing section between Piazzale Einstein and Notarbartolo Station, extending through via Notarbartolo and via Duca della Verdura to Piazza Giachery. This route is expected to span roughly 3.25 km with double tracks.

The design phase is scheduled to take 150 days, followed by 180 days for obtaining necessary approvals from competent authorities. Construction is tentatively projected to begin in August or September 2027.
