Palermo launches ‘Housing First’ project for homeless residents
The Municipality of Palermo has launched a new phase of its ‘Housing First’ project, providing housing for 12 homeless individuals. The apartments, located near via Don Orione and via del Quarnaro, were renovated using funds allocated through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP).
The project, coordinated by the Organizational Unit for the Extreme Poverty Fund, aims to support people living in conditions of extreme marginalization or poverty. The service offers a total of 25 positions for a duration of 24 months. While 12 beneficiaries will move into the new apartments for six-month periods, the remaining 13 will continue their journey in temporary housing provided by a consortium of companies until all 25 spots are filled.
Social Affairs Councilor Mimma Calabrò stated that the initiative is a significant step forward, placing housing at the center of a support and inclusion path designed to help individuals achieve greater autonomy and social integration.
