Palermo mayor calls on Enel to upgrade grid after heat‑wave blackouts

An exceptional heat wave in Palermo caused prolonged electricity outages, with some areas without power for more than 24 hours. Mayor Roberto Lagalla said the blackouts affected thousands of residents, especially the elderly, families, businesses and health‑care facilities. He praised Enel technicians for their restoration work but said the disruptions highlighted the need for a more resilient power network. Lagalla announced that the city will send a formal request to Enel’s management to discuss strengthening and adapting the local grid to cope with increasingly extreme summer temperatures.
