Italy advances major stadium renovations for Euro 2032

Italy is advancing major stadium infrastructure projects in preparation for UEFA Euro 2032.

In Rome, the Stadio Olimpico is slated for a €150 million renovation to meet UEFA standards. The project, led by Sport e Salute, aims to increase capacity to 70,000 spectators and transform the venue into a modern, sustainable hub for sports and entertainment. Construction is expected to begin in summer 2027, with completion by 2030. Additionally, the AS Roma stadium project in Pietralata has received administrative approval, with works targeted for spring 2027.

In Naples, the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona will undergo a significant restyling. CIPESS has confirmed €150 million in funding, which, combined with €50 million from the Municipality of Naples, brings the total to €200 million. The renovation includes removing the athletics track to bring seating closer to the pitch, with the track potentially relocating to Bagnoli.

Regarding tournament regulations, Minister for Sport Andrea Abodi noted that UEFA rules for Euro 2032 prohibit standing areas, requiring all spectators to have seated positions. This mandate impacts various Italian stadium renovation plans, including the Luigi Ferraris stadium.
