Italy expands nursery school infrastructure via PNRR funding

Italy is expanding its early childhood education infrastructure through various regional projects and national initiatives. In Pescara, four new nursery schools funded by the PNRR are set to open in September, providing 410 available places. Similarly, the Case Bruciate district in Perugia is launching a new facility following a 3 million euro investment, which will add 32 spots for young children.

Nationally, efforts aim to increase nursery school coverage, with projections suggesting that by 2027, one in two children in Italy will have a place. However, challenges remain in certain regions. In Sicily, despite significant PNRR funding for internal areas, administrative delays and local resource shortages have hindered the completion of essential works. While some cities like Rimini show positive trends in childcare availability, many families across the country still face gaps in service coverage.
