Italian schools report diverse updates on inclusion, infrastructure, and policy

Various Italian educational institutions are reporting diverse developments for the new school year. In Montesilvano, the Istituto Comprensivo Villa Verrocchio has launched the ‘Sentinelle di Civiltà e Felicità’ project, which uses empathy-based exercises, such as using wheelchairs, to teach students about disability and inclusion.

In Palermo, the Sciascia Comprehensive Institute’s nursery school in the ZEN district has reopened following a €646,609 renovation project focused on seismic improvement, energy efficiency, and the removal of architectural barriers.

In Sassuolo, municipal officials met with school leaders to discuss student enrollment trends and demographic changes, explicitly denying rumors regarding school closures and emphasizing a commitment to infrastructure maintenance.

In Pinerolo, the CGIL union denounced the temporary removal of a banner by law enforcement that read ‘The school is open to all. Art. 34 of the Italian Constitution,’ a protest against proposed legislation that would limit the number of students with migrant backgrounds in classrooms.
