Palermo schools face chaos following legionella alarm

Families in Palermo are protesting after the implementation of double shifts at the Antonino Pecoraro middle school. The logistical changes were triggered by the emergency transfer of primary school students from the Trinacria complex, which was closed due to a legionella alarm.

The transition led to significant disorder in Piazza Europa, where the exit of middle school students coincided with the arrival of primary students. Parents reported scenes of panic, including overcrowding, pushing, and distressed children.

Critics have highlighted several issues exacerbating the situation, including a lack of urban security and traffic management near the school. The area is currently a construction site with reduced pedestrian space, and parents have expressed frustration over the perceived lack of organization by school management regarding student entry and exit protocols.
