Palermo suspends tree removal after resident clashes in Mondello
Environmental groups in Palermo, including Legambiente Mesogeo, Legambiente Palermo and Legambiente Palermo Futura, condemned verbal and physical intimidation directed at municipal workers carrying out tree‑cutting operations on Viale Diana and Viale Margherita di Savoia. The groups demanded a temporary halt to the works and a dialogue table with the city administration, noting they had already sent a request to Mayor Roberto Lagalla and Environment Assessor Pietro Alongi.
In the nearby seaside district of Mondello, residents intensified the dispute, attacking workers and forcing the construction site to stop. The municipal authority announced it will file a complaint with the prosecutor’s office over the assaults. Both articles report the suspension of pruning and removal of allegedly dangerous trees pending resolution of the tensions.
