Palermo: Toddler dies in villa swimming pool

A two-and-a-half-year-old girl, Giulia Rita Guadagna, died after drowning in a pool in Palermo, Italy. The incident occurred on the evening of Thursday, August 27, at a rented villa in the Villagrazia area.

According to initial reports, the child entered the elevated above-ground pool while her parents and another family were present in the home. The parents discovered the child unresponsive in the water around 11:30 PM. Despite immediate attempts at resuscitation by the parents and medical personnel at the Guadagna medical center, the child could not be saved.

The Prosecutor's Office has ordered an autopsy and the seizure of the body to confirm the exact cause of death, though preliminary medical examinations found no signs of violence, making drowning the most likely cause. Carabinieri are conducting investigations, including interviewing the parents and other guests present at the villa to reconstruct the timeline of events.
