Palermo implements urban accessibility plan and housing reforms

The city of Palermo is implementing several major urban and social initiatives. The municipal government has adopted the Plan for the Elimination of Architectural Barriers (PEBA), a strategic tool designed to improve accessibility across the city. The plan includes an estimated €112.28 million for interventions on municipal buildings, UNESCO sites, and public spaces. The document will undergo a 30-day public consultation period before final approval.

In response to the housing emergency, the Municipality of Palermo has introduced new standardized procedures for housing exchange requests to ensure transparency and equity. Additionally, local leaders are calling for coordinated action between the Municipality, Iacp, and the Region to utilize the national 'Piano Casa' funds. This initiative aims to recover unusable public housing and increase the availability of homes for families through the renovation of existing assets and the potential use of confiscated properties.
