Reggio Emilia bans late‑night opening of neighborhood shops in August
An ordinance effective 1 August 2026 orders all neighbourhood shops up to 250 m² in Reggio Emilia to close nightly from 22:00 to 06:00 for the entire month. The measure, signed by Mayor Marco Massari, aims to curb alcohol‑related disorder and prevent large, unsupervised gatherings that have been linked to public‑space degradation. The rule applies city‑wide, covering the historic centre, the station area, Santa Croce, the cemetery district, Gattaglio and Gardenia neighbourhoods. Exceptions are made for larger food‑service establishments exceeding 250 m². The administration will enforce the order in coordination with the Prefecture, the Questura and local police forces, emphasizing public safety and urban livability.
