Palestine youth population reaches 1.2 million, accounting for 21% of total residents

The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics reported that approximately 1.2 million young people, aged 18 to 29, make up 21% of the total Palestinian population. This demographic accounts for 22% of the population in the West Bank and 21% in the Gaza Strip.

As of the end of 2025, the total Palestinian population is estimated at 5.56 million, with 3.43 million residing in the West Bank and 2.13 million in the Gaza Strip. Projections indicate that the youth population in the West Bank is expected to grow from 731,764 in 2025 to over 1,034,209 by 2050.

The Bureau highlighted that while youth are vital for economic and social development, they have been disproportionately affected by the ongoing conflict since October 2023. In the Gaza Strip, youth accounted for approximately 24% of the casualties reported through August 2026. In the West Bank, 71% of the reported casualties were under the age of 30. The report noted that these impacts extend beyond physical loss to include displacement, loss of housing, disrupted education, and increased psychological pressure.
