Palestinian and Moroccan officials coordinate ahead of UN General Assembly

Palestinian Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh and Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita held a phone call to coordinate positions regarding the Palestinian cause and preparations for the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. The discussions focused on regional developments and the necessity of unifying bilateral, Arab, and Islamic efforts to address current challenges.

Bourita reaffirmed Morocco’s stance, under King Mohammed VI, supporting the Palestinian people's resilience and emphasizing that lasting peace requires ending the occupation and establishing a Palestinian state.

Separately, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced his intention to participate in the UN General Assembly meetings in New York on September 24. Abbas emphasized that international recognition of a Palestinian state must be accompanied by practical steps to end settlement expansion and annexation. He also asserted Palestine's right to full and direct participation in the General Assembly, expressing a desire to avoid a repeat of the previous year when U.S. visa denials prevented Palestinian officials from attending in person.
