Palestinian Cabinet warns of Gaza hunger crisis and E1 settlement expansion
The Palestinian Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa, held its weekly meeting to address urgent political, humanitarian, and economic issues. The Council issued a severe warning regarding the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, citing UN data that four out of five families face critical or catastrophic levels of hunger due to aid restrictions.
Regarding settlement activity, the Cabinet called for international pressure to halt the E1 settlement project. It noted that the project has moved beyond announcement to practical implementation, including a tender for 1,234 settlement units east of occupied Jerusalem, which officials say aims to isolate Jerusalem and fragment the West Bank.
The Council also reported an escalation in settler violence, noting over 470 attacks in the past week, alongside Israeli military demolition operations affecting more than 36 Palestinian homes and facilities. Domestically, the Cabinet addressed the need for enhanced legal protections for women and children following recent incidents of severe violence and domestic abuse.
