Palestinian Central Elections Commission prepares for 2026 legislative elections
The Central Elections Commission (CEC) is advancing preparations for the 2026 Palestinian legislative elections, which are scheduled for November 28. In Ramallah, CEC Chairman Rami Hamadallah met with Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh to review the implementation timeline and discuss challenges, specifically regarding the ability to hold elections in Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip.
The discussions focused on international and diplomatic efforts to mitigate Israeli restrictions and ensure the elections can be conducted across all Palestinian territories. The CEC emphasized its commitment to the legal timeline and technical preparations.
In the Gaza Strip, the CEC has been conducting community outreach and training programs. These activities include coordinating with the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate to ensure professional media coverage, meeting with community leaders to promote voter awareness, and hosting training sessions for youth and civil society organizations to encourage participation and election monitoring.
