Palestinian children detained by Israel exceed 2,000 since 2023

The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society reports that Israeli forces have detained more than 2,000 Palestinian children since October 2023. At least 350 children are currently held in Israeli prisons under harsh conditions, facing risks such as torture, starvation, and denial of medical care. The report highlights the use of administrative detention, which allows for holding individuals without formal charges or a set release date, causing significant instability for families and education.

Specific cases include 15-year-old Mohammed Hamid, who required heart surgery and an amputation after contracting scabies in Ofer Prison, and 17-year-old Walid Ahmed, who died in Megiddo Prison in March 2025 due to malnutrition and dehydration. Additionally, reports indicate that Israeli prison authorities have used plastic bullets against detainees and neglected necessary medical treatments.

Separately, the Palestinian Ministry of Health has warned of a catastrophic hunger crisis in the Gaza Strip. Data indicates that 158,000 children are suffering from acute malnutrition, with many requiring medical intervention. The ministry also noted rising anemia among pregnant women and significant food insecurity affecting the elderly and vulnerable populations.
