Palestinian delegation travels to Cairo for election talks

A high-level Palestinian delegation is traveling to Cairo to engage in official discussions regarding upcoming legislative elections and national unity. According to Fatah spokesperson Munther al-Hayek, the delegation represents the State of Palestine and the official leadership of the Palestinian Authority and the PLO, rather than being a purely partisan group.

The delegation, formed by President Mahmoud Abbas, includes the Vice President, a deputy member of the Fatah Central Committee, and the Chairman of the Palestinian National Council. The agenda involves meetings with the Egyptian Foreign Minister and security officials to discuss election logistics and obstacles, particularly in the Gaza Strip.

Discussions are expected to include various Palestinian factions, such as the PFLP, the Democratic Front, Hamas, and Islamic Jihad, to address security and voting mechanisms. While Fatah aims to run on a unified official list and has expressed reservations about joining a joint list with Hamas, the movement maintains that doors remain open for dialogue with all factions to ensure a stable political system.
