Palestinian detainees face abuse and medical neglect in Ganot prison

The Gaza Ministry of Health and the Asra Media Office (AMO) have issued urgent calls for international intervention regarding the treatment of Palestinian detainees in Israeli custody, specifically within the Ganot prison.

The Ministry of Health reported that Dr. Marwan al-Hams, the director of field hospitals in the Gaza Strip, was subjected to severe physical abuse, including restraint, dragging, and beatings that resulted in fractures. The Ministry attributed the incident to the actions of Israeli authorities and noted the presence of National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir during the reported abuse.

Furthermore, the AMO reported widespread medical neglect among prisoners. Detainees are reportedly being denied treatment for injuries sustained during recent assaults, including broken ribs, head injuries, and fractures. The reports also highlight a lack of medication for chronic conditions such as thalassemia and high blood pressure, as well as inadequate food, cleaning supplies, and medicine for skin infections. The AMO has called upon international institutions and the International Committee of the Red Cross to intervene.
