Palestinian Environmental Quality Authority addresses pollution and climate cooperation

Zaghloul Samhan, head of the Palestinian Environmental Quality Authority, held meetings to address environmental challenges and strengthen cooperation in various sectors.

In Hebron, Samhan met with Governor Khaled Doudin to discuss local environmental issues, including waste burning in the town of Idna, illegal quarries, and the management of natural reserves like Wadi al-Quff. The officials discussed the impact of Israeli practices on natural resources and agreed on a plan to increase field inspections and law enforcement against environmental violators. There is also a proposal to open a second office for the Environmental Quality Authority in the governorate.

Additionally, Samhan met with representatives from Save the Children to discuss cooperation regarding the environment, sustainability, and climate change adaptation. The discussions focused on protecting children and local communities, particularly regarding environmental recovery and infrastructure rehabilitation in the Gaza Strip following the war. Both parties explored the possibility of a memorandum of understanding to integrate environmental awareness into national programs and support vulnerable populations.
