Palestinian Islamic Jihad's role in resistance strengthened by recent conflict
As the 39th anniversary of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad approaches, political analyst Ashraf al-Qassas notes that the group's participation in the ‘Al-Aqsa Flood’ battle has strengthened its presence within the Palestinian resistance movement. The involvement of the group and its military wing, the Al-Quds Brigades, has reinforced the concept of ‘unity of arenas’ and military partnership among Palestinian factions.
Al-Qassas suggests that the movement's actions serve as a response to the occupation, the blockade, and violations in Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque, as well as settlement expansion in the West Bank. The movement also views the prisoner file as a strategic pillar, using field operations and the capture of soldiers to increase leverage in exchange negotiations.
Despite these developments, the movement faces significant challenges, including the targeting of its leadership, the destruction of military infrastructure, and the difficulty of maintaining communication between Gaza, the West Bank, and external leadership. Additionally, the movement must manage its discourse with a population facing massive destruction and urgent needs for relief and reconstruction.
