Palestinian Journalists Syndicate reports 108 attacks in July

The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate reported 108 attacks against Palestinian journalists and media workers in the occupied West Bank during July. According to the syndicate’s Freedoms Committee, these violations included detentions, beatings, interrogations, and the obstruction of coverage.

Common violations included 58 cases of brief detentions and reporting restrictions. The committee also documented 11 attacks by settlers involving physical assaults and threats, as well as 12 instances where Israeli forces used stun grenades or tear gas against journalists. Other recorded incidents included raids on media offices, the seizure or destruction of press equipment, and the expulsion of journalists from the Al-Aqsa Mosque area.

In Gaza, four journalists sustained injuries from shrapnel while covering developments. The syndicate noted that the July figures contribute to a record number of journalist fatalities; rights groups estimate that more than 270 journalists have been killed in attacks since October 2023. Al Jazeera confirmed that 12 of its employees have been killed in Gaza since the start of the conflict.
