Palestinian public opinion favors peaceful negotiations
A recent public opinion poll conducted by the Jerusalem Media and Communications Centre (JMCC) in Gaza and the West Bank between August 20 and 25 reveals significant trends regarding Palestinian liberation strategies. According to the data, 55.8% of respondents favor “peaceful negotiations” as the best method to end the occupation and establish a state. In contrast, only 13.3% support “military means,” with 9.7% in Gaza and 15.7% in the West Bank selecting this option, while 17.8% favor “non-violent resistance.”
The poll also indicates widespread political exhaustion, with 58.6% of the population stating they trust no Palestinian personality and 55% stating they trust no political faction.
The findings are discussed in the context of the humanitarian disaster following the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led operation and the subsequent war launched by the Israeli government, which various international bodies and human rights organizations have characterized as genocidal.
