Palestinian rights group advocates for justice and participation in Gaza
The International Solidarity Association for Palestinian Rights (Hashd) is conducting several initiatives focused on legal accountability, education, and political participation in the Gaza Strip.
Legal expert Jan Fermon participated in a discussion titled ‘From Gaza to The Hague,’ which examined pathways for international and national prosecution regarding crimes committed against the Palestinian people. The session addressed the roles of the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice, emphasizing the necessity of documenting violations and collecting evidence according to professional legal standards to build judicial files.
In response to the humanitarian crisis, Hashd held awareness sessions regarding the right to free education, asserting that war and displacement do not negate the fundamental right to schooling. Participants discussed the challenges posed by the destruction of educational facilities and the need for compensatory education programs.
Additionally, Hashd issued a position paper on the right to participation and decision-making in Gaza. The document argues that residents must be active partners in planning relief, recovery, and reconstruction efforts rather than mere recipients of aid, to ensure transparency and accountability in humanitarian programs.
