Palestinian Women’s Minister Mona Khalili visits Jenin to boost economic empowerment

On 23 July 2026, Palestinian Minister of Women’s Affairs Mona Khalili and a ministry delegation visited Jenin Governorate. They were received by Governor Kamel Abu Rab, Jenin mayor Muhammad Jerar, member of the Palestinian Women’s Union Wafaa Zakarnah, and Deputy Minister for Women’s Affairs Buthina Salem.

The officials discussed how settlement expansion and infrastructure damage affect families, and stressed the importance of women‑led economic projects. Khalili outlined a ministry programme to broaden women’s economic participation in the northern districts and the Jordan Valley, launching training for women‑run institutions funded by the Italian Development Cooperation Agency. The training aims to prepare these organisations for financing and sustainable development. Khalili also linked economic empowerment to increased political participation ahead of upcoming elections.
