PALI Regent investigated by KPK over alleged audit opinion bribery

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is investigating Asgianto, the Regent of Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir (PALI), regarding allegations of bribery to manipulate state audit opinions. Asgianto was questioned as a witness at the BPKP South Sumatra representative office on Tuesday, August 18.

Investigators are examining whether Asgianto requested assistance from officials at the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK) to change the regional financial report opinion from ‘Qualified Opinion’ (WDP) to ‘Unqualified Opinion’ (WTP). The PALI Regency has reportedly not received a WTP status since 2013.

The investigation suggests Asgianto may have sought help from AG, a suspect in a separate bribery case involving the Muara Enim Regency, and BB (Bobby Adhityo Rizaldi), a BPK member previously summoned as a witness. The KPK is currently exploring whether these practices of manipulating audit opinions extend beyond Muara Enim to other regions.
