Palizada municipal labor dispute triggers mass layoffs and state intervention

A labor conflict has erupted in Palizada, Campeche, following the mass dismissal of municipal employees. Reports indicate that approximately 300 workers were terminated under orders from Mayor Pedro Javier Ayala Cámara, leading to protests and the occupation of the Municipal Palace.

The displaced workers are demanding the immediate payment of overdue salaries, unpaid bonuses, and full legal severance. Protesters stated they are no longer seeking reinstatement due to a breakdown in trust with the local administration, citing a history of wage arrears and abuses of authority.

To mitigate the crisis, the Campeche State Government intervened by providing 1.5 million pesos in emergency funds to address some pending claims and facilitate the release of the municipal building. State Secretary of Government Víctor Sarmiento Maldonado noted that while this funding addresses immediate needs, it is not a final solution. A working group has been scheduled to establish a formal route for resolving all outstanding labor debts and liquidations.
