Palm Desert woman charged with murder after husband's death

Vicky Kim, 65, has been charged with murder following the death of her husband, R. Kaufman, in the Palm Desert community of The Enclave. Riverside County Sheriff's deputies responded to the gated condominium complex on September 4 after receiving a call regarding trouble at the residence. Upon arrival, authorities discovered Kaufman with traumatic injuries consistent with a physical assault; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Court records and prosecutors indicate that Kim allegedly used a flagpole to inflict the fatal injuries. The Riverside County District Attorney's Office noted a history of alleged domestic violence between the couple. Prosecutors stated that Kim had faced multiple previous cases involving her husband, including a felony charge and criminal protective orders issued in January.

According to spokesperson Molly Smith, despite efforts by the District Attorney's Office to aggressively prosecute previous incidents, a judge had previously resolved Kim's cases as misdemeanors and terminated existing protective orders. Kim was taken into custody and booked into a local jail.
