Palm Springs firefighters patrol after dry lightning sparks fires
Palm Springs firefighters have initiated patrols across the area following a series of lightning strikes that caused multiple fires and one medical emergency.
A half-acre brush fire occurred near Snow Creek Road, which was later handed over to the Bureau of Land Management for investigation. In Chino Canyon, a lightning strike ignited a palm tree. Additionally, one individual was transported to a local hospital after being struck by lightning in a separate incident.
Officials noted that the region is experiencing dry lightning, which occurs when lightning strikes with little to no accompanying rain, increasing the risk of igniting dry vegetation. Fire crews continue to monitor the surrounding mountainsides for smoke and new developments.
