Palma and Santa Cruz de Tenerife formalize twinning agreement
Palma and Santa Cruz de Tenerife are formalizing a twinning agreement this Thursday through a series of ceremonies in the Canary Islands capital. The initiative, approved by both municipal governments in recent months, aims to strengthen institutional, cultural, and economic collaboration between the two cities.
The partnership is rooted in deep historical, social, and economic ties, including the presence of Balearic families in Tenerife and the operation of major Mallorcan hotel chains such as Iberostar, Barceló, and Meliá in the region. The agreement also covers maritime agreements between Fred Olsen and Baleària, as well as direct air connections.
In addition to the twinning, Santa Cruz de Tenerife is hosting the 18th edition of the Plenilunio festival. This year’s event is themed around ‘The Four Elements’ (earth, air, fire, and water) and features over 100 activities across 20 locations, including musical, gastronomic, and cultural performances designed to boost local commerce and tourism.
